A versatile choreographer and former professional dancer, Kevin James is classically trained and has had additional experience in modern, jazz, and contemporary dance. A former dance professor described him as "equally at ease in classical and contemporary repertoire." He most recently danced with Smuin Ballet in San Francisco, where he choreographed a pas de deux for the 2015 Smuin Choreography Showcase. Subsequently, that piece was a finalist in the 2015 Dance Gallery Festival in Texas and was also performed by Columbia City Ballet in South Carolina. Kevin participated in the summer 2015 Choreographic Essentials Workshop directed by Helen Pickett in Atlanta. In addition, he has choreographed numerous pieces for both the professional dancers and the students of Summer Dance Company, also in Atlanta.
Before joining Smuin Ballet, Kevin danced with the Minnesota Ballet and the Sarasota Ballet. Kevin graduated from Butler University in 2009 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance Performance . He is originally from Atlanta, Georgia, where he trained with the Atlanta Ballet.
